I've never really liked long hair for being active. It's just something that is me. I have had waist length hair before and, while I liked how I could style it, I really didn't do much more with it beyond a braid, messy bun, or clip twist.
In the fall, I took the plunge and went to our local beauty college to get it cut off. I am almost always open to whatever they want to do with my hair, as long as it falls within provided boundaries. That is where I met Jiovanna, who has been cutting my hair since. She always is excited to see me because I let her play. We have done color, we have done a few different shapes, etc.
About a week and a half ago, I went it to get my hair cut with a practice cut for the trail. I wanted to try it before the trail to see what we would need to change before I am in the middle of nowhere. She is excited for me to be on the trail and, of course, have the freedom to do what she wants with my hair.
As always when I do a drastic change, we had to do before pictures. This is the second time I have been a part of drastic cuts for Jiovanna, which is exciting.
My only boundary was that I didn't want her to completely shave my head. I don't think I have the best head shape for that. After some slightly terrifying moments under her clippers, which happened to tickle my ear so much that I squeaked, lending much entertainment to the situation. My hair was finished.
It's an undercut, so everything is shaved like the first picture, but I still have a good chunk of hair on top that I can comb to either side. I like how short and light it is, though the jury is still out on how much I like it for hiking. Bring on the practice hikes to see!
